Spirit of Enterprise awards in Nottingham sees accountant Sarah Cornelius winner of the Norman Allcock Award
Sarah Cornelius, proprietor of accountancy practice Cornelius & Co won the Norman Allcock Award for Leadership at last night’s Spirit of Enterprise Awards In Nottingham. The Norman Allcock Leadership Award is for demonstrating an enterprising and entrepreneurial spirit whilst establishing the firm. The black tie gala took place at the Council House in Nottingham.
The awards are organised by Nottinghamshire Business Venture (NBV), who as the county’s enterprise development agency champion and support the local business community. Norman Allcock was the former Chief Executive of NBV and the award named after him is in recognition of his tireless campaigning for regeneration in Nottingham before sadly passing away.
Sarah was delighted to learn that she’d won and had this to say after receiving her award.
"Considering the high standard of the finalists, I certainly didn’t expect to win – getting into the final three was an achievement, so I’m thrilled to have won. This award is really significant for me, as I really admired Norman and his work."
The glass trophy will take pride of place in the reception area at the West Bridgford practice. To thank her team for their support she’ll be taking them out for dinner; the £1,000.00 prize money will be invested in the business.
Richard Deardon, Chief Executive of NBV explained why Sarah had won:
"Sarah started her business to improve her work/life balance. Through the years she’s learnt that principles are just as important in her business life as they are in her personal life and that’s essential to always trust your own judgement."
The awards were conceived by Sir Paul Smith, one of Nottingham’s favourite sons and advocate for new enterprise. Sir Paul first suggested the awards when opening Mercury House, NBV’s enterprise incubation facility in the city and sponsors the Sir Paul Smith Enterprise Award. Other award sponsors include SAGA 106.6FM, Airtime, Soroptimist International, HSBC, New Entrepreneur Scholarship, Business Link Nottinghamshire, Backing Business in Bassetlaw, Mansfield District Council, Ashfield District Council, NBV Board and Newark Business Venture.
Runners-up of the award were Beverley Burton of No Limits, Mansfield and Acme Rockets, Newark.
